night and had to quit his job two years ago to care for Spencer.
Without a job, Craig has been living on credit cards. Adding to the emotional stress and financial
difficulties he faces, his wife has taken their second child, a daughter, to live with her family in another
city in Japan leaving the responsibility of Spencer’s care solely to Craig.
Made up of beautifully shot scenes of Craig and Spencer at home and in the neighborhoods of Okazaki,
Life as Dad explores the mundane details and existential dilemmas that Craig must struggle with daily.
The movie shows a man who instead of fleeing his difficult situation, embraces it and faces the
difficulties of each day not with cloying Pollyanna optimism, but with realism, quiet heroism and
occasionally joy.
